Articles on humidity and dry air
The crawl space is one of the parts of the house most prone to damp. High humidity can lead to mould, rot and a musty odour that spreads upwards into the home. As crawl spaces are often cool and have limited ventilation, you need a dehumidifier designed to work effectively even at lower temperatures.
By maintaining the relative humidity at a safe level, you can reduce the risk of damp damage and create a healthier indoor climate throughout your home.
Wood’s dehumidifiers help you keep your crawl space dry all year round and reduce the risk of mould, unpleasant odours and costly damp damage.

Dehumidifiers for crawl spacesCrawl spaces are often cool and have limited ventilation. When warm, damp air enters and cools down, condensation forms, which can create an environment where mould and rot thrive.
To reduce the risk of mould, it is recommended that the relative humidity is kept below around 60%. A dehumidifier helps to keep the level stable all year round.
Common signs include a musty smell in the house, visible mould, damp on wooden joists or high humidity in the crawl space.
Yes. Air from the crawl space can rise through the floor and joists, which means that a musty smell can sometimes be detected throughout the home.
It depends on where the dehumidifier is located. In basements, crawl spaces and garages, we recommend running the dehumidifier all year round, but Wood’s dehumidifiers have a built-in hygrometer and will only operate when the humidity exceeds the set relative humidity level (around 50%).
A crawl space requires a dehumidifier with high capacity, high airflow and good performance at low temperatures. Wood’s DSC50FM and DSC95P have been specially developed for these conditions.
