About 40% of Europe’s population has some type of pollen allergy and when the spring sun begins to warm up, nasal congestion with watery and irritated eyes awaits almost all summer long. Many people also have problems with headaches and irritated airways that can cause asthmatic symptoms. Considering that we spend about 90% of our waking hours indoors, there is a lot to be gained from purifying the indoor air we breathe in, day and night.
Many people who suffer from pollen allergies choose to stay indoors more than usual during the pollen season but this does not help much if there is as much pollen in the indoor air as outdoors. By purifying the indoor air with a dedicated air purifier that is placed correctly, you can get rid of more than 80% of all pollen particles in the room, allowing your airways to rest and recover, not least during the important night’s sleep.
In addition to today’s effective medicines, as a pollen allergy sufferer, it is a very good idea to review how the air in the home is purified. If you live in an urban environment, there are, in addition to pollen, air pollutants in the form of exhaust particles, dust, and bacteria that enter our homes and impair the quality of our inhaled air. We breathe an average of 10,000 litres of air per day and drink about 2-3 liters of water. We place high demands on our water to be clean – and should do the same for the air we breathe.
A recently published study on forskning.se, conducted at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science at the University of Gothenburg, states that pollen impairs the resistance to SARS-CoV-2, commonly known as Covid-19. The study, which has collected data from over 30 countries on five continents, clearly shows that all types of pollen, even non-allergenic, adversely affect human virus defense. One way to protect yourself against high pollen levels indoors is to invest in a good air purifier, which filters out pollen. Outdoors, an FFP2 type mouthguard, with good filtration properties, can help.
It is generally recommended that you place your air purifier in the room where you spend the most time and this of course also applies to air purification during the pollen season. In the home, this room is often the bedroom and with your new air purifier, you can breathe pollen-free, clean, and healthy air while sleeping, to help you wake up feeling rested and refreshed.
If you will be working from home during the pollen season, it is a good idea to review what you can do about your current work environment. In offices and workspaces, there are often systems for good ventilation with adequate filtration, but this may not be the case at home. Investing in a portable air purifier for your home is a beneficial solution. This allows you to move your air purifier from the bedroom at night to the home office during the day, or have it in the kitchen when you cook, followed by the TV room, near the couch in the evening.
By already reviewing the air purification in your home and where you sit and work, you can avoid a lot of symptoms caused by pollen allergies. By investing in quality air care, you can create an indoor environment that is healthier and more comfortable to be in.
