Articles on humidity and dry airThe Arnstrand family, consisting of Lisa, Martin and three daughters, live in a lovely house from the 1910s in central Alingsås. In the house’s large basement, everyday activities are constantly going on, around the clock. In addition to storage spaces, there is also a workshop, craft room, bicycle storage and – not least – the laundry room where all the laundry generated by five active people is constantly circulating between the laundry basket, washing machine and drying rack.
Every active family knows how much laundry is done in just a few days. If the laundry doesn’t dry fast enough, the piles grow quickly and turn into b erg. Being able to dry laundry quickly, efficiently and energy-efficiently is therefore high on most families’ wish lists. In the Arnstrand family’s basement there is a drying room dehumidifier from Wood’s which takes care of the moisture around the clock, while blowing the laundry dry.
– We’re a big family and the dehumidifier is on 24 hours a day, because we basically wash and dry laundry twenty-four seven. The laundry smells good and, above all, it dries very quickly – and we need that,” says Lisa.
A drying room dehumidifier blows laundry dry while removing moisture from the air throughout the space and converting it into water, which is either collected in the container or discharged to the drain with a supplied hose. While drying the laundry in record time, it provides a comfortable indoor climate, whether in a basement or any other room in the house.
For Martin, cycling is a big interest and it is important that the bikes dry quickly when cleaned after the last ride[CKE1] so that they do not rust or get damaged by moisture.
– Thanks to the dehumidifier constantly keeping up with the moisture, the air environment is also good for the bikes. I also don’t have to worry that what drips on the floor when I hang up freshly washed bike parts or other equipment will cause moisture damage or mold in the house.
– When we moved into the house, the basement smelled a bit stale, but now it feels comfortable, it has become dry and the whole basement feels much better,” say Martin and Lisa.
The family usually moves the dehumidifier around in the basement, so that it can work where it is best needed at the moment. For example, it is great to have in the craft room when the daughters sit there and paint and craft, so that both spills, watercolors, bead plates and other items dry up.
They were so pleased with their first Wood’s dehumidifier that they have now purchased a second one.
– We have an old house with a stone basement out on the islands too, so the first dehumidifier from Wood’s that we bought in 2010 we have moved there and here at home we have a new drying room dehumidifier that is even more efficient specifically at drying the laundry quickly.
Wood’s dryer dehumidifiers are specially designed to blow laundry dry while dehumidifying the air. In addition, LD models convert water vapor into heat: for every liter of water vapor condensed, 780W of clean thermal energy is returned. In a raw, damp and cold basement, this function means that you not only get a drier basement with a more comfortable indoor climate, but also that it feels warmer[CKE1] as the air becomes less humid.
– We are super happy with our dehumidifiers. Without them, our everyday life would probably not work!
Drying laundry indoors without removing the moisture generated can lead to moisture damage, mould, bad and stale odours and poor indoor air quality. Outdoor drying is relatively rarely an option in the Scandinavian climate (and many people choose not to do it even in summer due to pollen allergies). Dryers are hard on clothes and textiles and the noise and vibrations they produce can be disturbing for both household members and neighbors, if you live in an apartment building or townhouse.
For families with children, just getting their clothes dry for the next day can be a challenge, especially children’s outerwear, which can be both dirty and wet after a day of outdoor play. But you can’t put unwashed outerwear in a dryer, and you don’t want to have to wash them every day. That’s why it’s perfect to have a real clothes dryer to help you – the dehumidifier. Just hang up all your outerwear and let it dry gently and quickly, without stripping away the waterproofing properties of many of today’s outer garments. If there is sand and mud left, just brush it off when the garment has dried. Every time you don’t have to wash your outerwear, its lifespan increases.
Laundry and clothing care is an important part of most families’ daily lives, especially those with children. Anyone who leads an active life knows how nice it is to be able to efficiently dry laundry, textiles, outerwear and shoes, so that you have time for new outdoor adventures (or a moment on the couch). Drying laundry quickly, quietly and gently is smart, sustainable and circularly beneficial, while leaving time for other things.
